A restaurant that knows its puns sounds fun, so we’re packing our laptop bags right now and heading to Katipunan Avenue.
Hoy, Panga!—a chain of grilled tuna takeout business that started in Davao—has opened a branch in Quezon City. Unlike its Davao counterparts, this one has a dine-in area. The tuna comes from Davao City’s Toril Port, and we hear the Katipunan staff are from Davao, too.
We’ve been wanting to try its menu of tuna panga (jaw, PHP99-PHP250), belly (PHP199) and, just for the fun of it, shonga (siopao na panga ng tuna, PHP15).
What makes Hoy, Panga! special? Instead of charcoal, it uses ceramic briquettes that are more environment-friendly; these are better at conducting heat. thus requiring less gas to operate, and demanding fewer refills. Two thumbs up for that.
Hoy, Panga!, 227 Katipunan Ave Ext, Bgy Milagrosa, Project 4, Quezon City (near QMMC Hospital); +63 998 1592223. Daily 10am-11pm.
