Champorado, a sweet, usually chocolate-y rice porridge, is one of the most popular and classic Filipino snacks. But one woman in particular has gone viral for making this treat cheap, accessible, and a lot more fun by offering her own twists on the dish, including a spectacularly purple ube version.
Angelique Reyes of Angelique and Jhon’s Meryendahan in Landaska, Caloocan City, is used to long queues of people lining up for her giant pots of sweet and sticky champorado topped with evaporated milk, which can be ordered for as little as PHP25 (US$0.44) per bowl.
Aside from her shop’s affordable prices, its generous and thick servings and eye-catching colors have made Reyes’ champorado prime fodder for YouTube and TikTok content — the latter of which has racked up nearly 7 million views.

A video by a food content creator called Ran Got Away has racked up 1.1 million views as well.
Facebook is also filled with enterprising users doing “pasabuys” for curious customers, buying up her champorado wholesale (a pot costs PHP2,200 or US$38.99) and delivering orders on behalf of people who want to try her offerings but are unable or unwilling to brave the long lines.
Reyes’ latest menu consists of the famous Champorado Hershey, which makes use of the popular chocolate brand instead of the more traditional tablea, the vibrant Champorado Ube, as well as other items such as Creamy Sopas (Filipino macaroni soup), Ginataang Mais (corn and coconut milk rice pudding), Ginataang Halo Halo (halo halo with coconut milk), and Pancit Palabok.
Reyes’ streetside shop is located at Barangay 28, Landaska Block 2, Caloocan City and is open every day from 2pm to 9pm, or until supplies last.
