Carinderia Crawl E48: Tatarick Con Eatery

When Marnee Gamboa first moved to Quezon City in 2009 to study college, the 22-year-old marketing executive heavily depended on fastfood restaurants for her daily meals.

Entering a carinderia didn’t even cross her mind because she had the misconception that food served in such establishments was unsafe. “But I realized that it’s getting too expensive to eat fastfood and I was gaining weight,” she says, “so one day my sister and were walking around our neighborhood when we saw eatery with unique chairs, so we tried it.”

The carinderia, called Tatarick Con Eatery, is now their go-to place for food. On this episode of Carinderia Crawl, she she orders fish sinigang and likes how it still tastes like it’s fresh off the stove even if it was already after office hours. “Usually carinderia dishes are just reheated, but this one still tastes like it’s just been cooked,” she remarks. “It has chili, kangkong, tomatoes and a fish called maya-maya.” The serving was big enough for two people and cost only 58 pesos with one cup of rice.
