Well, more like a tempura bowl eating contest.
If competitive eating sounds like your kind of sport and Takeru Kobayashi and Joey Chestnuts are your heroes, then listen. SumoSam, one of Marvin Agustin’s restaurants, is holding a tempura eating tournament.
It’s more a contest of speed than volume: Whoever finishes 5 regular SumoSam tempura bowls first, wins…one year supply of tendon and PHP5,000 worth of gift certificates.
Third place gets PHP2,500 worth of GCs, while second place gets PHP3,500 worth of GCs. The rest, well, you get to eat 5 bowls of regular tempura tendon for free.
Just so you know, a regular tendon is made up of 3 pieces of ebi tempura on a bed of white rice, plus mixed vegetables comprised of onions and sweet potatoes. That sells for PHP398.
There are only 20 participants per tournament date, so you may want to register soon.
The tournament starts on Feb 28 at Sumo Sam Greenbelt 3, and then goes on for three more Saturdays after: March 7 at Sumo Sam PowerPlant Mall, March 14 at Sumo Sam SM North EDSA, and March 21 at Sumo Sam Gateway Mall, Araneta Center in Cubao. They all start at 5pm sharp.
