If you want your food with a dash of sass and a sprinkle of gay, have we got a spot for you.
Bekylog
This otherwise ordinary roadside attraction in Gayvite can now be rightfully considered destination dining thanks to the interesting names of its combo meals. They are either Maharlika Meals (PHP55-PHP65) or slightly cheaper Murayta Meals (PHP40-PHP45). Dishes adapt the colloquial and colorful style of local gay lingo — chicken longganisa is nyiken longga (PHP40), fish fillet is nyis fillet (PHP65), spicy adobo is majonghang na adobochi (PHP55) and tosilog is tocinocinadeskeru (PHP55). The only catch? You’ll need to drive out to Cavite. JM Loyola St, Bgy 4, Carmona, Cavite; +63 922 7794676; www.facebook.com/Bekylog. Daily 10am-10pm.
The Bekiry
Also promoting the bekimon way of life is this cupcake business with an online cult following. The Bekiry offers cupcakes and cakes with a unique, gay twist. Their best-seller is the Red Velveloosh (Red Velvet) “for that time of the month.” Another bestseller is the KITty KAT (“Gays want to have it, and boys want to be in it.”). The Bekiry started out as a means to accumulate funds for a trip to Boracay, but since the business boomed, the beki crew decided to keep on baking. No dine-in, order online via Facebook.com/TheBekiry.
Anu’man
Anu’man may be a bit more serious, but it welcomes the LGBT community with arms wide open. They been open for less than a year, and one of their most photographed items is the placemats that greet customers with a loud and proud, “Come out, we’re open!”. It is a safe place to enjoy delicious comfort food and good company without judgment. Its name is derived from the FIlipino term anuman, which roughly translates to “whatever” — because, here, anything goes. The menu is a mix of Asian and FIlipino dishes. Must-tries are Killig To The Balls (spaghetti with mozarella stuffed meatballs, PHP185); and Ang Pinakamakisig na Sisig sa Balat ng Lupa (sisig, PHP200). They also have monthly events like quiz nights, speed dating, mixers and single-awareness shindigs. Thursdays are reserved for No Takot Thursdays for open mic. Unit H, 16 United St, Bgy Kapitolyo, Pasig (across Ace Water Spa); +63 905 2091207. Daily 6pm-12am.
