Over the weekend, people trooped to the Podium mall in Ortigas to check out the World Eats food fair by Pinoy Eats World. There were familiar favorites like Sebastian’s ice cream and the Kitayama meat shop, but there were also new and yummy food brands that had food lovers curious and of course, eating.

tapa chips
1. Tapa Chips by Three Hungry Tummies (PHP350/150-gram pack)
This has been a regular food item at the Ayuyao family table since last year. “My children like something crispy all the time,” says owner Anna. “So I thought, why not turn tapa into something like bacon?” The end product was such a hit that friends and relatives who got to taste it requested for more. And the rest is history. Three Hungry Tummies, +63 920 9075498, +63 927 9331058

traydor
2. Traydor Hot Sauce (PHP200/100 ml)
Toogy Clavecilla and JC Medina love hot sauce. While they think that the commercially available ones do have heat, Toogy and JC think they lack in flavor. And they all taste the same. So they came out with their own line, the Traydor Hot Sauce, which packs a punch from the siling labuyo and offers complex taste.Traydor Hot Sauce; +63 906 3301292

ice pops
3. Fruity Ice Pops by Ice Pops Manila (PHP20/piece)
Andre Hernandez got her first taste of this frozen treat in Thailand. She loved it so much, she asked her good friend Charlene Liwanag if she would be interested in employing the same icy concept in the metro. Charlene agreed to it and the two came up with their range of ice pops with their own twist. Ice Pops Manila; +63 917 6318328, +63 916 4303031

cheese roll
4. Cheese Roll by Grape Vine Desserts (PHP60/piece)
It’s a dish inspired by Porto’s Bakery in Los Angeles. And since nobody has thought of serving it in Metro Manila yet, baker Mika Macrohon filled the gap and came up with her own flaky pocket pie. Filled with a mix of different cheeses, they’re sinfully delicious. Grape Vine Desserts; +63 917 8106452

buko pie
5. Buko Pie by Purple Yam (PHP250/individual pie)
What makes this buko pie leagues above the rest is its smart mix of coconut meat in its different stages of maturity — lucadon, mala-kanin and young coconut, resulting to an interesting taste and mouthfeel. Purple Yam; +63 926-7133523
