Three restaurants from the Philippines have been named as part of Asia’s 100 Best Restaurants in 2022.

Toyo Eatery (94th), Antonio’s Tagaytay (74th), and Gallery by Chele (69th) made it to the list, with Gallery tying with India’s Comorin in Gurugram.

“Toyo Eatery, which opened in March 2016, serves heightened Filipino dishes using local ingredients and is a reflection of Navarra’s heritage, memories, training and experience,” 50 Best wrote of Toyo in a previously published profile. “Its name is Tagalog for soy sauce, a Filipino condiment that may be an everyday household ingredient but which is also complex and takes time and dexterity to create, much like the dishes served at Toyo.”

Meanwhile, Antonio’s Tagaytay is a mainstay on the list, having landed on the no. 48 spot in the 2015 edition of Asia’s 50 Best. Antonio’s is known for its picturesque property and continues to be one of the most sought-after dining destinations.

Gallery by Chele is one of the most celebrated dining spots in the metro, and is widely known for fusing Chele’s culinary techniques with traditional methods and “(continuing) the legacy of research, documentation, and analysis of the flavors, techniques, and customs of the Philippines, as well as in-depth studies of the most common products.”

The 51-100 list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is released a week before unveiling Asia’s 50 Best as it “aims to shine a light on a wider array of establishments across the region,” featuring some of Asia’s “hottest gastronomic destinations.”
