Weekend warrior: 5 things to do in Metro Manila this weekend

1. Treat your kid (and your inner child) to Fun Ranch.
This amusement park slash party palace for kids has several rides and attractions that are safe even for the small ones. There’s no entrance fee, but there is a PHP175 charge for the activity area per hour; or you can take the unlimited package for PHP300. For other rides and attractions, each ticket costs PHP50. G/F Frontera Verde, Ortigas Avenue cor. C5, Pasig City; www.kidsrulehere.com; +63 2 687 2870. Mon-Fri 12noon-9pm, Sat & Sun 10am-9pm. Check website for other branches.

2. Catch the last-weekend run of Ang Buhay ay Pelikula, a play about Philippine showbiz.
The cast of characters of this comedy musical was inspired by personalities from Philippine show biz, like film producer Mother Lily Yu Monteverde, directors Elwood Perez and the late Ishmael Bernal, and more. Based on a 1989 Palanca Award-winning play, it stars Ateneo Entablado members and alumni. Rizal Mini Theater, G/F Faber Hall, Ateneo de Manila University; www.facebook.com/ateneo.entablado; +63 926 5523319. Sat 3pm & 7pm, Sun 7pm. Till Aug 31.

3. Admire a telegenic Metro Manila in On The Job.
Erik Matti’s latest Piolo Pascual-action starrer, shot in Escolta, Caloocan and other places your dad wouldn’t let you be in past midnight, made its world premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight program of Cannes Film Festival (2013) and is (finally) showing in Metro Manila cinemas this week. There are no heroes in this movie, just, ugh, complex human beings. Cinemas citywide.

4. Hole up at home with the new Plants vs Zombies 2 game.
You’re guaranteed to spend hours upon hours of zombie smashing fun. For Apple devices, the game is available at the app store. Alternatively, you can download it here: http://plants-vs-zombies-2-download.blogspot.com/.

5. Go crazy for Yayoi Kusama
World-famous eccentric Yayoi Kusama, known famously for choosing to live in a mental hospital in Japan, is a fascinating personality and her complex works are equally intriguing. Art lovers Lito and Kim Camacho, display their collection at this new museum series. Ayala Museum, Makati Ave cor De La Rosa St; www.ayalamuseum.org; +63 2 757 7117. Tue to Sun 9am-6pm. Till Sep 1.
