That is one lucky dog.
As we melt in this sweltering El Nino heat, Buddy the mongrel is experiencing his first winter in Germany. That’s all thanks to Emmy Karnót, the German tourist who came to Boracay last year, fell in love with an askal puppy she decided to adopt him and take him home to Germany.
According to the Daily Mail, Karnót headed out to the Pukabeach police station to ask if she could maybe hold a bonfire for her birthday. A police officer showed her two newborn mongrels living underneath an old police car. After seeing her play with one of them, he handed it her and said happy birthday.
“My only thought was [what] if I do everything wrong because I never had a dog before,” she wrote on her Facebook page. “[But I thought] if he stayed with me it’s better than there. So I accepted his present and adopted Buddy. He was so small.”
It was only supposed to be a six-week long holiday but Karnot couldn’t leave Buddy behind. So Karnót extended her stay for another three months and started the adoption process.

“She described the process of bringing Buddy back to her native Germany as ‘complicated and expensive’ – but she did not give up,” writes Alex Mays on Unilad.
“Sometimes I was close to [giving] up,” Karnót told The Daily Mail, but she just couldn’t leave Buddy behind. “I love this guy so much!”
The two have been back in Germany for no less than six weeks now, where Buddy has experienced his first German Christmas, met swans, and felt snow on his paws.
Everybody now: aww.
