THE PROBLEM: Identical “Do Not Enter” signs are tacked on the same post in Wilson corner Arras streets in San Juan.
THE INCIDENT: Before the no entry policy was in place, vehicles could go through the five-meter distance from the corner of Arras Street to P. Guevarra Street and from there, turn left or right. Those who are familiar with the horrible traffic buildup on Wilson and P. Guevarra Streets know why this rerouting is necessary. Others are frustrated by being displaced. For instance, to get to the left side of P. Guevarra from the Addition Hills side of Wilson, they have to cross five blocks and make a u-turn all the way in the Greenhills side of Wilson. We can only speculate that the post was riddled with “Do Not Enter” signs after previous claims from drivers that the lone sign wasn’t visible from the road. Or maybe the traffic police didn’t know how to handle a supply overrun.
SHOULDA COULDA WOULDA: One sign is sufficient if it is in a strategic place. Any more and it’s just visual pollution. However, more directional signs would be helpful to motorists who are not familiar with the area, so that they don’t feel they are driving through a maze full of dead-ends.
