Today is Oct 21, 2015 and in the Back to the Future universe, it’s one hell of a day. There’s a shitload of celebration going online, commemorating the day when Marty McFly and his girlfriend time-traveled to visit Dr. Emett Brown in Hill Valley, California.
But this Filipino couple is celebrating it unlike no other we’ve seen. Elijah Mendoza and his wife Joanna dressed up as Marty McFly and Jennifer Parker, found a DeLorean, and posed for a shoot — all while babysitting their two sons.
The germ of an idea was planted in Elijah’s brain when he saw a DeLorean at the Manila International Autoshow last year. “I did my research and learned that there were only three DeLoreans in the Philippines,” he tells Coconuts Manila over the phone. One of them was in Subic.
In April 2015, while casually shopping at HMR on Pioneer Street in Mandaluyong, he saw a jacket that looked exactly like Marty McFly’s. “I bought it for PHP600,” the Back to the Future fan continues.
In July, he saw a pair of shoes that looked too much like Marty McFly’s being sold online. He asked his wife to buy it for him as a birthday gift.
When the shoes eventualy arrived in September, the idea came back full throttle. “We thought, let’s go all out and celebrate!” They’re both huge fans of BTTF movies. “I’m a gadget and tech geek while she’s into everything Hollywood,” he explains.
Recalling the DeLorean in Subic, he called a friend for leads about where to find it. The car had been parked at the Subic Peninsular Hotel so on Oct 18, the couple decided to go to Subic and stay overnight.
For good measure, the couple decided to make a hoverboard and an almanac from scratch. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a babysitter, so we had to take our kids with us,” Elijah continues.
He proudly shares that his photos, which are now going viral online, were taken only with a regular DLSR and a tripod.
Amazing work you guys! Now we know what you’re going as this Halloween!
