The Hollywood Reporter posted a review of the movie “Metro Manila” last Jan. 25 and it was pretty much a good one.
An entry to the 2013 Sundance Film Festival’s World Cinema competition, the movie, according to the review is “more of a slow-burner than an outright actioner.”
It praises the lead actors’ well-modulated performances,” which the reviewer said contributed a lot to the movie’s effectiveness. The production quality was also commended, described as “first-rate” especially when the “many practical locations required to shoot the film” are considered.
“Metro Manila” is a film about Oscar (Jake Macapagal), who brings his whole family to Manila and tries to make ends meet. He gets a job and becomes friends with Ong (John Arcilla), who as it turns out has an ulterior motive.
