Art Coco: Street artists Egg Fiasco and Rai Cruz

Compared to cities like Melbourne, Penang, Lisbon or Barcelona, Metro Manila’s street art scene is a zygote, thought that’s about to change (hopefully) now that we’ve successfully hosted the a street art festival featuring both local and international names.

“Marami talagang may ayaw sa ‘amin before,” says Egg Fiasco who started with ‘bombing’ and ‘tagging’ but created a piece for ArtBGC NextAct One Festival held in May. Thankfully, he’s graduated from indecipherable scrawls to images that regular people could actually appreciate and interact.

Rai Cruz, who collaborated with other street artists on a wall in Intramuros, says this is how the street art scene in Metro Manila evolved: “’Uy, vandalism’. Tapos naging ‘uy, graffiti’ tapos nung nagtagal, naging ‘uy, street art yan ah.” So where does it go from here? Watch this Coconuts TV video and you tell us.
