We noticed something important this year: In 2015, it seemed like Pinays fearlessly sported red lipstick. We think that’s a direct effect of the AlDub phenomena, but we could be wrong.
So we consulted with Nicole Romero, the brains behind Beauty and Sparkle blog, about our observation. And it seems we’re correct. Red lips is one of the biggest beauty trends of 2015. In true Beauty and Sparkle tradition, Romero added four more of those. Check out her list below:
1. Red Lips
You can thank Maine Mendoza for this one. While her wacky facial expressions are the bread and butter of her Dubsmash performances, her luscious red lips remain the focal point of it all — she’s always highlighted her full lips by wearing red lipstick. And people followed suit: MAC’s Ruby Woo quickly sold out when they learned it was the shade Maine was using. At the moment, she credits L’Oreal’s Pure Rouge for her signature red lips.

2. Strobing
Haven’t you noticed how so many ladies looked extra dewy and radiant in 2015? That’s thanks to strobing, a technique that uses light-reflecting makeup, amping skin’s glow instead of making them look shiny. The person to credit? Celebrity makeup artist Robbie Piñera who first worked his magic on Anne Curtis. Photo: Robbie Piñera/Instagram

3. Power Brows
The hype around thick, and bold eyebrows may have died down, but the importance of having an on-point healthy brow hasn’t. Fuller-looking arches that are naturally shaped and shaded became the ideal. 4. Gel Nail Art
Gel manicures have been around for some time now, but this year, we noticed that it stepped up its game. How? More Japanese and Korean salons are popping up around the metro to offer a nail art option that boast of intricate and dainty details like the ones we spotted on UPFRONT at UAAP host, Janeena Chan and top fashion blogger, Dani Barretto. 5. Natural Makeup Look
Flashback to 2014 when it was all about Beyoncé’s “I Woke Up Like This” look. This year, we saw a little more color on the cheeks and lips combined with lightly defined eyes on some of the hottest models (like our very own Kelsey Merritt). The effect? A more polished, fresh, and put-together look that won’t make people wonder if you’re sick. Photo: Anthea Bueno/instagram
