Exploreum offers education through entertainment

With the arrival of smartphones and tablets, and how they have managed to get kids addicted, the need for the young ones to go out and see the world has gotten more pressing.

This is exactly why SM’s Exploreum couldn’t have opened at a more perfect time. Formerly known as the SM Science Center, it is now a brand new learning space offering 118 child-friendly interactive exhibits and eight major galleries that promote parent-children bonding and education through entertainment. According to Nicole Deato, Assistant Vice President for the Educational and Leisure Centers of SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc., the Exploreum is an immersive experience that will stimulate curiosity and inspire science learning in families by creating fun and memorable experiences. “Science is as basic as breathing to the most complicated gadgets and technology we enjoy,” she said. “At the Exploreum, our goal is to make kids and parents realize the relevance of science and how its practical application is integrated to our everyday lives. Science is fun and that’s what we want our guests to experience at the Exploreum.”

One reason to check out the Exploreum is Science on a Sphere, a six-foot diameter globe where animated images of the atmosphere, oceans, and land are projected on. With over a hundred installations around the world, it has finally found its way to the Philippines. Learning about atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature is sure more fun through the Science on a Sphere. It can even show you flight paths of airplanes and Facebook connections around the world.

The Exploreum also houses the Planetarium, the country’s only full dome theatre. With its 180-degree digital screen and using the Digi-star 5, a best-selling operating system for full dome theatres, the 158-seater Planetarium is perfect for a kid’s first-time movie experience, especially with shows such as “Journey to the Stars,” “We are Astronomers,” “Timespace,” “The Zula Patrol,” “Down to Earth,” and “One World One Sky: Big Bird’s Adventure” that will all make the audience feel as if the stars and planets are right in front of them.

Best of all, they also have a Junior Science Club, which gives members unlimited access to the Exploreum and to different fun activities like experiments and edutainment sessions. Perfect for those who live nearby or parents who want to expose their kids to the practical application and relevance of science in everyday life.

The EXPLOREUM is located at SM Mall of Asia and SM Lanang Premier.  For more information, visit exploreum.ph
