DOH and GSK launch dengue awareness campaign

The world’s first-ever dengue vaccine arrived in the Philippines last December, but there are other ways to prevent getting the sometimes-fatal tropical disease, especially now that the rainy days are here.

With over 200,000 dengue cases were recorded in 2015, the Department of Health has partnered with GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Philippines Inc to implement the Allied Against Dengue regional campaign starting Jul 12.

The same campaign was also recently introduced in Indonesia and Malaysia.

DOH will be giving anti dengue vaccinations in Region 4A, 3, and NCR.

Dengue primers and leaflets will also be distributed in dengue hotspots in Metro Manila.

These primers and leaflets will contain information about a mosquito’s life cycle, common places where they lay their eggs, symptoms of dengue fever, and ways to prevent it.

Proper dengue fever prevention and management will also be taught in barangay outreach programs.
