Backed by HK company, Rustan’s aggressive in 2014

Attention, shoppers: There will be more Rustan’s supermarkets and groceries near you.

“The grocery and supermarket arm of the Tantoco family’s Rustan’s retail group is continuing its rapid expansion this year,” reports Neil Jerome C. Morales in The Philippine Star.

Rustan’s Supercenters Inc, the umbrella group that handles Rustans Supermarket, Shopwise, and Wellcome, target to open 13 new stores in 2014, with Wellcome supermarket leading the way.

Why the confidence?

“In 2012, the Tantoco family sold 36-percent stake in Rustan’s Supercenters to Dairy Farm of the Hong Kong-based diversified conglomerate Jardine Matheson Group. Luxury retailer Spinnaker Group also sold its 14-percent stake in Rustan’s Supercenters to the Jardine Group,” adds the reports.
