A recent Islamic State video depicting a beheading has now been revealed to involve two Malaysian citizens serving with the Middle Eastern fundamentalist group.
20-year old Mohd Faris Anuar from Gurun, Kedah, and 25-year old Muhammad Wanndy Muhamad Jedi from Durian Tunggal, Malacca, have been identified by the Royal Malaysian Police as being the two seen in the video.
Bukit Aman Special Branch Counter Terrorism Division principal assistant director SAC Ayub Khan released mugshots of both Mohd Faris and Muhammad Wanndy, along with that of Wanndy’s wife, 26-year old Nor Mahmudah Ahmad of Baling, Kedah.

The 30-second video was uploaded on Facebook on February 22, and depicted the beheading of a Syrian man accused of being a spy for the Assad regime by ISIS forces. The beheading was carried out by an ISIS militant of Arab descent.
In the video, Mohd Faris could be seen waving his index finger to the camera, while Muhammad Wanndy is believed to have been the man behind the camera.
Another ISIS operative, believed to be an Indonesian, could be seen holding up the severed head of the victim while shouting “Allahuakbar” (“God is great”).
Ayub told The Star Online‘s Nadirah H Rodzi that police intelligence deduced that Muhammad Wanndy was involved based on the voice heard in the video.
Wanndy is also the owner of the Facebook account for Abu Hamzah Al Fateh, to which the video was uploaded.
Both Muhamad Wanndy and Mohd Faris Anuar are believed to be part of the new wing of Malaysian and Indonesian militants identified as Majmu’ah al Arkhabiliy.
The wing replaced the older unit that went by the name of Katibah Nusantara Lid Daulah Islamiah in Syria and Iraq.
