A source from Universiti Malaya (UM) has revealed that two of its deputy vice-chancellors are not getting their contracts renewed at the university for being too pro-opposition and lenient with students.
The source told The Malaysian Insider‘s Zulkifli Sulong that Professor Dr Mohd Hamdi Abd Shukor, currently deputy vice-chancellor (academic and international) and Professor Dr Rohana Yusof, deputy vice-chancellor of student affairs, would not have their contracts renewed, and would be replaced.
Hamdi’s three-year contract as deputy vice-chancellor lapsed on December 31, and he is now serving as an ordinary lecturer in the Faculty of Engineering.
“I understand that the Education Ministry did not approve the extension of my contract after my name was submitted by UM,” Hamdi said when contacted by TMI.
The anonymous source added that Rohana is to be replaced due to incidents involving student activities and adcademic freedom.
“UM will get a deputy vice chancellor in charge of student affairs who is stricter,” said the source.
