Actor, director and Malaysian movie industry heavyweight Datuk Yusof Haslam is famous for pushing the tough guy aesthetic in his work – he’s the man we have to thank for Gerak Khas and Roda-Roda Kotaraya, after all. But when his sprawling Taman Melawati mansion was broken into yesterday morning, he brought the hardboiled act to life.
During the 2.30am incident, three masked men were believed by police to have broken into the Taman Melawati estate belonging to Yusof. The director was watching television when he heard his housemaid’s screams from the ground floor of the residence.
Rushing downstairs with his Glock pistol in hand, Yusof fired off a warning shot into the ceiling of his home, before discovering the door grille had been prised open.
“He fired another two shots to the nearby jungle because he suspected that the criminals who broke into his house have fled there,” Ampang district police chief ACP Khairuldin Saat told The Star Online.
“However none of the five occupants, including Yusof, were hurt in the 2.30 am incident.”
Among the items stolen in the burglary were a wedding ring, worth arond RM10,000, and a wristwatch, both belonging to the director.
