Youthful prank goes awry when ‘ghost’ riding pillion pulls up alongside police, shocking officer

Boo!
Boo!

A group of wily youth, out to scare local kids by dressing one of the crew as a hantu pocong (shrouded ghost), pranked the wrong group when they pulled up to police officers while riding a motorbike.

The original plan to scare young students returning from nighttime religious classes went pear-shaped after the gang’s two motorbikes happened to come across police while cruising around Bukit Pinang town on Friday night.

They were promptly detained by authorities, and the entire group, shrouded ghost included, taken in to Kota Setar district police headquarters.

A 30-second video of the pulled-over hantu pocong and his band of merry men was making its rounds on the internet since Saturday. The ghost, identified as 16-year-old Mohn Imran Mohammad, can be seen in the clip with police still in hantu pocong character, jumping up and down.

Speaking to reporters from his family home, he told them that his friends tied sheets around him before the four of them set off on two motorbikes as part of a prank. Fifteen minutes into the charade, Imran, riding pillion, pulled up to two officers, and managed to shock one of them before all four were arrested.

The boys were let off with a stern warning by police, telling them that while it may just have been youthful mischief, the group could have seriously frightened some of the more superstitious among us.

What? Us? Superstitious? Please – everyone knows hantu pocong aren’t real. It’s the pontyanuk and token office hantu you need to worry about. Do not mess, but if you need — we have a bomoh you can call.
