Engaged young couple busted for saying yes to the meth

Weddings can be expensive events.  Some couples pick up a second job or extra hours at work, while others will even go as far as taking out a bank loan to supplement their means just to make their day extra special.

A Georgetown, Penang, couple was taking that concept just a wee bit further when they, along with a friend, were caught with over RM10,000, about $2,300, of drugs in their car along the North-South Expressway, near Changlun, Kedah.

Their plan? Take syabu (aka meth), Malaysian favorite Eramin 5 and “some marijuana” to sell north of the border in Thailand. Needless to say, they didn’t make it. Malaysian Border Security Agency (Aksem) apprehended the trio on April 13.

The couple, a 24-year-old male and 23-year-old female, along with their 23-year-old companion confessed to wanting to use the proceeds from their sale to fund their wedding later this year. They claimed they obtained the drugs from a man known only as “Mid” in Sungai Dua town.

Aksem Commander Abdul Latif Abd Rahman was quoted as saying that 99 percent of their border arrests are of youth between the ages of 19 and 30. Most are found to be carrying either syabu or Eramin 5, and heading to Danok, a town across the Thai border, where they meet with local connectors to push their product.

Sounds like a story to watch here at Coconuts.

The three arrested youth are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
