Gone are the days when all it took to get rid of a few mosquitoes were a pair of hands and a can of insecticide.
A Chinese tourist has decided to lodge a police report after spotting a few mosquitoes in his hotel room, The Star Online reports.
The 67-year-old man – reportedly from Shanghai, China – was holidaying in Malacca with his wife when he spotted mosquitoes and other insects in his hotel room.
Fearful that he and his wife would contract the Zika virus, the man decided to lodge a report at the Banda Hilir police station on Saturday with the help of a translator.
A local tour guide told the news portal that the man wanted to warn hoteliers against taking the Zika threat lightly.
Malacca Health, Sport Development and Anti-Drugs deputy committee chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon told The Star Online that although the police report could appear bizzare to some, he reminded hoteliers to take measures to eliminate mosquitoes and other insects.
“The police report could be an eye-opener for us,” Ng was quoted as saying.
