You had one job: cop loses pistol during his lunch break in Gombak

Well this certainly bolsters our confidence in Malaysian law enforcement, doesn’t it?

A senior narcotics officer who reports to Bukit Aman’s intelligence and operations unit, had a bag containing his laptop stolen from his car while he was having lunch in a restaurant in Jalan Gombak, The Malay Mail Online‘s G Prakash reports.

That wasn’t the only thing stolen in the incident, however. As it so happens, the officer’s laptop bag also contained his Walther P99  semi-automatic pistol and ten bullets.

Which the officer left unattended. In his car. While he went to have lunch.

Sources told MMO that the incident happened after the officer met with another investigator to discuss a drug case.

“The officer and his partner were in an unmarked Proton Preve. The car is usually used during stake outs by narcotics officers. The incident happened when they stopped at Jalan Gombak before returning to Bukit Aman,” the source said.

The officer had parked his car along the roadside at 1.45pm; when he returned from lunch at 2.20pm, he found the rear windscreen had been smashed, and the bag missing.

Also missing after the incident were the officer’s Pulapol and Bukit Aman security pass cards.

The officer immediately lodged a police report on the incident at Gombak police headquarters … because when something like this happens, even cops have to do that.
