Passengers of a Rapid KL bus were forced to flee for their lives when the vehicle they were on suddenly burst into flames.
According to The New Straits Times, the incident reportedly happened near the Aeon Big shopping mall at Wangsa Maju at around 4.00pm.
The driver reportedly stopped the bus when he smelled smoke, believed to have come from the vehicle’s engine.
The driver then reportedly hurried the six passengers out before the flames engulfed the bus.
Six cars that were parked nearby also reportedly caught fire.
City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani told the daily that the department received a distress call at around 4.00pm, and a team of firement immediately rushed to the scene.
According to Samsol, it took the firemen about 20 minutes to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd said in a statement cited by the daily that they will compensate the owner of the vehicles that were damaged in the incident.
“We will offer our full cooperation to the authorities to investigate the cause of fire and the estimation of loss. Rapid Bus would like to apologise over the incident which also disrupted traffic at the location,” the company said in the statement.
