Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) managed to make top 100 in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2016, according to a news report by Bernama.
UTM was ranked 70th in this year’s standings, making it the highest-ranked Malaysian university in the list.
Joining UTM in this year’s list were Universiti Putra Malaysia (ranked 121-130), Universiti Sains Malaysia (141-150) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (161-170).

“This new data release shows that Malaysia, along with Thailand and Indonesia, have universities able to stand up to rigorous performance benchmarking against the Times Higher Education’s performance indicators,” Times Higher Education rankings editor Phil Baty was quoted by Bernama as saying.
Yeah, we know it’s nothing to shout about, but it’s still quite an accomplishment considering that no Malaysian university was featured in the top 100 of last year’s Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings, which ranks the top 200 universities in Asia.
Oh, in case you were wondering, the National University of Singapore topped this year’s list, followed by Nanyang Technological University and Peking University.
