Uhm, progress?
One of the many waterfalls in Terengganu’s Tasik Kenyir, currently being promoted by the state government as a major tourist and duty-free shopping destination, will be reserved for women only.
Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said announced that the people handling the boats taking visitors to the waterfall, as well as the security personnel posted to the area, will also be all women.
The Star Online reports that the MB explained arrangement was being made in response to a special request from women tourists from the Middle East.
Apart from the rather unusual “arangement”, Tasik Kenyir will also be the world’s first duty-free lake from next September onwards.
The state government is pushing hard for the Kenyir lake area to be recognised as a major tourism attraction, with RM300 million already spent to that end.
