Local media outlet Sinar Harian is reporting that pieces of “pork” were allegedly thrown into two surau (prayer rooms) in the Melaka area yesterday morning.

Police have confirmed the incident, saying it is now being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for injuring and defiling a place of worship with the intent to insult the religion. Authorities have now been asked to keep an eye on surau, mosques, and other religious buildings until the matter is resolved.

“We don’t want any individuals to take advantage (of the situation),” said the local police chief.

Early yesterday morning, individuals who had come to morning prayers at the surau in Bukit Serkam reported that pieces of meat were found inside, along with rolled up folders. One of the men present contacted JAIM, the Melaka Islamic Affairs Department, which then contacted the police.

Less than two hours later, authorities arrived, and a cleansing process was carried out on the premises. Later that morning, a cleaner at another surau in Ladang Serkam found similar pieces of meat inside.

At this time, there is no actual confirmation that any of the meat is actually pork.

Many Malaysians have taken note of the current situation, and have begun to speculate that certain individuals may be keen to opportunistically turn recent events into racial tumult.

Last night, a group of men attempted to converge on the recent site of a showdown between two committees warring over a Hindu temple set for relocation, attempting to usurp the narrative to fit their agenda. Although swiftly stopped by police, they had been marching and chanting “Hidup Melayu” (long live Malays) and “Allahuakbar.

A spokesman for the group claimed that they were marching on the site “because this involved all the Malays.” At a Hindu temple. Whose land is owned by a Filipino conglomerate.

Don’t get took, guys. We know better. One love.
