Woohoo! Malaysians get free MRT rides for a month

If you can’t wait to take the new MRT to work, then we have good news for you.

Rides on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), which has officially begun operations on Friday, will be free for a period of one month.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Najib Razak at the launching ceremony of the first phase of MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line on Thursday.

According to PM Najib, commuters would also be able to enjoy the new feeder bus services for free during that period.

“As a new year’s gift to the people as well as to give an opportunity to all the rakyat to try the new, modern and efficient public transport, I want to announce that Rapid Rail will give free MRT service starting tomorrow until January 16, 2017.

“This includes the related feeder bus service. Fares will only be charged starting January 17, 2017,” he was quoted by Malay Mail Online as saying.

On Friday, 12 MRT stations under Phase 1 of the Sungai Buloh-Kajang line have opened its doors to the public.

The 12 stations are Sungai Buloh, Kampung Selamat, Kwasa Damansara, Kwasa Sentral, Kota Damansara, Surian, Mutiara Damansara, Bandar Utama, Taman Tun Datuk Ismail, Phileo, Pusat Bandar Damansara and Semantan.
