Woof in aisle six: Dog in supermarket trolley sparks ire of Malaysians

One supermarket shopper has stirred the ire of Malaysian netizens after she was spotted pushing her dog around in her trolley.

The incident occurred June 3, at the TF Value-Mart in the town of Bentong, an hour outside of Kuala Lumpur. One concerned social media user posted their conversation with the supermarket, who assured them that they were looking into the incident.

Her pooch can be seen enjoying the scenic views of the soups and stocks aisle, flagrantly flouting anti-pet rules in most Malaysian establishments and hygienic common sense.

While much anti-dog rhetoric in Malaysia can stem from religious sensitivities that some Muslims have towards canines, many of those who criticized the pet’s presence in the supermarket were actually non-Muslims.

One user wrote: “I am a non-Muslim and also own a dog but even I know the dos and don’ts when it comes to situations involving pets – and trust me, bringing my dog to a supermarket or restaurant is a big DON’T.”

Another user also questioned how comfortable the dog would be in a bright, supermarket, with unfamiliar sounds and setting, and whether the nervousness could result in the dog defecating in the shop.

TF Value-Mart has since posted a statement to their Facebook page, saying they had been made aware of the incident, and that dogs were not permitted in their stores. They also engaged with religious authorities from the local mosque to help clean the store, and ensure that the entire premises, carts included, were properly cleaned in accordance with religious standards.

There you have it folks, cleansed carts and UNBEATABLE prices on onions. See y’all in aisle six.
