Woman spooked into parting with her savings

A 74-year-old woman was spooked into parting will all her savings to three women who claimed that her children were haunted by female ghosts.

Sin Chew Daily reported that the woman, one Jiang Ya Mei, bumped into the women at a market in Teluk Intan on 14 April.

One of the women approached her and asked if she knew of a good doctor who could treat her sick family member. The other two women then joined in the conversation, claiming that they knew a man who could cure any sickness.

Jiang, whose own son was sick at the hospital, was asked to bring some rice to the man so that he could carry out a “healing process”.

A few days later, Jiang received a call from one of the women saying that her children were haunted by female spirits. She was asked to bring all her valuables so that the man could conduct a ritual to rid the spirits.

Worried about her children’s safety, Jiang gave the suspects a bag containing RM40,000 and jewellery. The suspects told Jiang that her valuables would be returned to her after the ritual.

However, when she checked the bag later, she found only a packet of drink inside it. She lodged a police report.
