A woman reportedly poisoned her two children before killing herself in her home at Kota Samarahan, Sarawak yesterday.
The New Straits Times’ Adib Povera reports that police found the 37-year-old woman’s body hanging inside the bathroom of her house in Kampung Baru at 8pm.
Kota Samarahan district police chief Deputy Superintendent Lee Chong Chern was quoted as saying that police were informed by neighbours, who suspected something wrong when they realised the house was too quiet.
When a team arrived to check on the house, they discovered the elder child, a seven-year-old boy, dead. The younger boy, aged four, was reportedly still alive when police arrived.
Unfortunately, the boy was pronounced dead as soon as he reached the Sarawak General Hospital’s (SGH) Heart Centre.
According to Lee, a bottle of bleach was found next to the children in the house.
“Our checks on the boys when we arrived showed that the area around their mouths had darkened, suggesting poisoning,” he was quoted as saying.
“We believe the woman had poisoned her children before committing suicide as no elements of foul play were found at the premise,” he was quoted further.
