Woman killed in minor accident due to airbag mishap

A woman was killed in a minor fender bender on Sunday reportedly due to a ruptured airbag.

According to The Star Online, 44-year-old Norazlin Haron was driving from Sri Gombak to Kota Damansara with her two sons when the accident happened at around noon.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din told the news portal that her Honda bumped into a Mercedes along Jalan Teknologi 3/6A and the airbag was reportedly deployed.

“The weather was good and it was not busy,” ACP Zani was quoted as saying.

Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Department senior officer Rosdi Hainan told The Star that a team of firemen was dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 12.10pm.

Rosdi said the airbag was reportedly found ruptured and the victim could have sustained injuries to her chest from an item protruding from the steering wheel.

“The airbag could have been ruptured by the material. There was blood in the car when we inspected it.

“Medical personnel from Sungai Buloh Hospital said that she was barely alive when help arrived.

“She later died at the scene. Her three passengers were unhurt,” he told the news portal, adding that her remains were sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem.

Just last week, Honda Malaysia has issued a recall for 147,894 units of its vehicles made between 2003 and 2011 to replace the front passenger airbag inflator.
