Woman caught behind Pandan Perdana surau trying to abandon baby

Congregation members of a surau in Pandan Perdana were able to detain a woman attempting to abandon a newborn baby.

At 9am last Friday, the 20-year old woman was observed entering the surau’s premises with a sling bag, and tried to leave the bag in a corner of the building.

She was stopped and questioned by several members of the congregation, who also examined the contents of the bag. They were surprised to find the baby in it.

“He (the person who discovered the baby) immediately contacted the police on the matter,” a source told Harian Metro

Cheras district police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin confirmed that the woman has been remanded to assist in investigations. She is scheduled to be released tomorrow.
