More police officers will be deployed to areas determined to be snatch theft hotspots, said Crime Prevention Department director Datuk Ayub Yaakob.
Depite a decline of 11.4% in the national crime index for the first five months of 2014, snatch theft cases have seen an increase of of 23.4% this year.
“Urban centres in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur are the focus of snatchers. We will have to place more personnel at hotspots to curb snatch thefts and ensure public safety,” Ayub said to The Malay Mail Online.
