Seemingly out of the blue, more than 300 small colourful objects were found placed on a rock in Tanjung Balau beach, near Bukit Tinggi in Johor.
The multi-hued objects, looking like stupas from Indonesia’s Borobodur Buddhist temple site, have intrigued local residents and netizens alike, leading some to speculate that they may be a ritual offering to spirits.
Tanjung Balau Fisherman Museum assistant curator Muhammed Iqbal Rosli told Astro Awani that the objects were discovered as he was accompanying a state government representative on a tour of the location.
“We do not know who placed the objects and what ceremony or ritual was conducted.
“The museum has also not moved the objects as there too many of them and we do not want any untoward incidents. However the number is getting lesser after the objects were swept away by the tide,” he said yesterday.
