We’ve got this: Water-borne diseases under control, says Health Ministry

The spread of water-borne diseases in flood-hit areas is under control, according to the Health Ministry.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S Subramaniam told Bernama that despite the 30 cases of leptospirosis in flood-ravaged Kelantan, there was not much to worry about as it was not high risk.

“Up to now, we have also yet to receive any reports on the spread of other water-borne diseases such as cholera or typhoid,” he said.

Over 200,000 people were forced to evacuate when waters rose last month, wiping out entire villages in what was considered Malaysia’s worst case of flooding in decades.

The Health Ministry is also working on rebuilding health clinics that were destroyed during the floods.
