We never agreed to a compromise, says PKR

PKR has denied reports that its adviser and Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim agreed to a ‘compromise’ for another candidate other than his wife to take over from outgoing Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

As the state gears up to see the swearing-in of a new MB tomorrow, PKR said in a statement that it will not budge from its support for party president and Anwar’s wife Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, The Star’s Akil Yunus reports.

“PKR would like to stress that its previous decision holds firm and this was agreed again at the party’s political bureau meeting last week.

“The candidate for Mentri Besar remains unchanged and that is Dr Wan Azizah, who was chosen in her capacity as party president and Kajang assemblyman,” PKR sec-gen Saifuddin Nasution said in a statement.

He rubbished reports that Anwar had verbally agreed to a ‘compromise’.

“It would be irresponsible to disseminate reports suggesting otherwise,” he was quoted as saying.

Three candidates – excluding Dr Wan Azizah – have reportedly been shortlisted as the final names for the much talked about MB post.
