You can stop looking up every five minutes and anticipating a downpour: we havent started trying to make it rain yet.
The Meteorological Department cannot begin planned cloud seeding operations until could conditions are optimal, said forecast director Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.
“It’s hard to predict when exactly the time will be,” he said.
“Atmospheric conditions have to be perfect first.”
Muhammad Helmi was unsure if the cloud seeding would commence in the coming week.
Ideal atmospheric conditions include a north-easterly wind, to bring cumulus clouds over catchment areas.
“These will be decided based on radar images,” he said
“Everything else is ready, it’s just that we are waiting for the right time to activate them.”
Last week, Selangor state executive coucillor Elizabeth Wong said the Meteorological Department was preparing to engage in cloud seeding exercises and had given orders to seed all water catchments in the peninsula.
The Royal Malaysian Air Force had also been asked to gear up for the exercise.
