Volunteers needed: help look for MH370 in satellite images

Tech company DigitalGlobe has launched a crowdsourced initiative to allow members of the public to help look for visual signs of missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared en route from KL to Beijing on Saturday, through online satellite images.

DigitalGlobe specialises in providing high-resolution earth imagery products, culled from its constellation of private satellites. The company caters to the needs of industries as varied as defence and intelligence, mapping and analysis, environmental monitoring, and oil and gas exploration.

The company has invited volunteers to use its Tomnod platform to scour satellite images of the area thought to be the last known location of Flight MH370. Volunteers are urged to tag any traces of possible wreckage, life rafts, oil slicks or other interesting or suspicious objects they might find in these images.

For more information on how you can volunteer in the search for Flight MH370, head over to DigitalGlobe’s project page.
