After viral video of rough baggage handling, Air Asia ramp crew is now taking your bag to first base

After last week’s brouhaha concerning just how roughly Air Asia’s ramp crew was handing your luggage (spoiler alert: damn rough), the airline staff has taken things to the next level to ensure traveler’s bags and checked-in goods arrive intact.

And by “next level,” we mean first base: They are literally kissing bags now.

Last month, AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes had a meeting with his ramp crew to announce a four-day break for them, and a one minute clip from his impromptu speech made it to Facebook.

In addition to asking employees to chill on sick leave (unless you’re actually sick, he added), he also asked them to be more careful with passenger luggage they were loading.

Perhaps a foreboding suggestion considering how viral the rough-handled bike bags went last week, he told his employees to be gentler with the bags. “Every week I have an email about broken bags,” he said. “Kiss the bags.”

Eager to make amends with disgruntled passengers, some employees have uploaded photos to social of themselves taking extra care with your luggage, including a few pecks on your Samsonite.

Some Facebook users have called it “unprofessional” (Singapore, is that you?).

Others recognize that the workers take pride in their job, and want to humorously let the public know they care more than you think they do.

Tony, for one, is down with the bag-loving, and has said he’s proud of his “Ramp All-Stars.” He’s even started a hashtag for it – #kissthebag

Honestly, as a passenger who has had more than one bag destroyed after an Air Asia flight – I couldn’t care less if you took my bag to dinner and a movie before you made out with it – just leave my wheels intact.
