Vietnamese authorities have scrambled their rescue helicopters to investigate the sighting of a “yellow object” in its waters, as Search and Rescue (SAR) teams suspect it could be a life raft from missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared on Saturday morning.
A Vietnamese jet had spotted the floating object earlier today, but was unable to get close to determine what it was, said Vice Transport Minister and deputy head of the country’s rescue committee, Pham Quy Tieu.
The website of the Vietnamese Civil Aviation Authority said searches were being conducted about 140km southwest of Tho Chu Island, which is located 200km off the coast of southern Vietnam.
