Video: Girl in tudung rescues injured dog, goes viral, all is love

We’re all stressed out (and probably a little more pissed off than we’d like to admit) about a whole range of issues blowing up in the country, but if there’s one thing that can bring Malaysians of all stripes and ideologies together, it’s a viral video showing someone doing pretty decent.

Case in point: the Malaysian Indepentdent Animal Rescue official Facebook page posted this video yesterday morning, showing a girl wearing the Islamic hijab crossing a busy street to tend to and rescue an injured dog.

A true hero and she is God sent. Salute her to the max.

The video has gone appropriately viral, with netizens praising the woman for overcoming the Malay-Muslim stigma against touching dogs to lend a hand to a pup in pain.

The woman, now identified by Malaysian Independent Animal Rescue as Anis Mohd Taufik, was at Teluk Panglima Garang in Selangor last Friday evening when she saw a collision between a motorcyclist and the dog shown in the video.

According to her own account on Facebook, Anis rushed to see to the injured dog while the motorcyclist himself received assistance from others – the rider suffered from a broken clavicle and fractured ribs due to the accident.

Unfortunately, the dog Anis rescued and kept company did not survive the ordeal. Shortly after the events shown in the video, the dog died from its wounds.

Commenters on the FB page’s video commended Anis for a job well done, and many overcame their initial horror at the dog’s fate to wish the motorcyclist a speedy recovery – after all, it didn’t seem like he meant to run the poor pup down.

Now go wipe away those tears and get back to being your angry repressed urban selves.
