Ahead of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) being rolled out nationwide on April 1, a video has gone viral on Malaysian social networks depicting what seems to be the Customs Department’s official GST anthem.
The video shows a choir of Customs officers in full uniform singing extremely clunky lyrics, extolling the virtues and benefits of the new tax.
The song includes lines such as:
The Goods and Services Tax
Will be implemented by the Customs Department
In the name of making the tax system more transparent
Towards a more competent nation
and:
Not all items will be taxed
Some will be exempted, some will be zero-rated
The song is in Bahasa Malaysia, but trust us, the lyrics are just as awkward in any language.
