Video of child being beaten goes viral, suspect in remand

A video of a child being caned by what appears to be an older woman has gone viral, crossing the line from discipline to abuse, as social media users were left horrified. The date of when the beating occurred is not known; however, it happened in Puchong Perdana, in Kuala Lumpur.

The clip is still available on YouTube here, but we want to warn you that it is incredibly distressing, and painful to watch.

Shockingly, part way through the video, she realizes she is being filmed by an unknown third-party, and dares them to send the clip to the media. She asks the camera “since you’re recording, well, let me see are you going to give it to the newspapers?” The video was first shared on Whatsapp and Facebook before the The Sun caught wind of it and reported the abuse.

The nearly 3-minute long clip shows a young girl eating, before she is forcibly stopped and then beaten with what appears to be a back-scratcher. While scolding the child in Tamil, the woman accuses her of spilling her food. The distressing clip shows the young child screaming in pain, gasping for air, and then making the child change her top. While she is doing so, the woman slaps and kicks her as well.

The authorities have already dealt with the matter, with Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari telling The Sun that, “the victim has been rescued and the suspect caught.”

The woman is to be remanded in Petaling Jaya court tomorrow.
