Video: 90s rocker Zamani Slam was forced to sing for the cops who arrested him

Yesterday, it was reported that a local singer who was most prominent during the 90s (and a female companion) was arrested for possession of heroin.

A video surfaced early today pointing heavily to who that singer was: Zamani Ibrahim, better known as Zamani Slam, frontman of the band of the same name.

Although Zamani has been notorious for his substance abuse issues for the past decade and change, what was shocking transpired in the video, now made viral through YouTube and Bahasa Malaysia gossip sites: apparently, the Ampang Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division officers who arrested Zamani made him sing for them while in custody.

The video shows a handcuffed Zamani sitting on the floor singing a few bars of Slam’s breakout hit single ‘Gerimis Mengundang’. As he trailed off after a few bars, a voice – presumably belonging to one of the arresting officers – could be heard urging him to sing some more.

Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted today that there would be an investigation into the matter, and that stern action would be taken on the individuals responsible for recording and distributing the video.
