Well, this is interesting.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) says they may have found the cure for dengue and, possibly, for the Zika virus; both transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
A senior lecturer at the university in Johor Baru, Dr Harisun Yaakob, had told the media yesterday that the drug — called Anti-D’ngue — was a supplement in the form of soft gel that combines papaya leaf extract, coconut oil and Nano Technology.
“The supplement has proven to increase the platelet count after one to three days, but this depends on the individual’s own immune system and how much damage has been caused by the virus,” the New Straits Times quoted her as saying.
Dr Harisun said it had taken her team more than five years to come up with the drug.
The supplement is expected to go into mass production next month and is not in the process of being patented, the NST said.
