UPSR: Pupils to retake Tamil, Maths papers next month

Year Six pupils will have to re-sit the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) Mathematics and Tamil language papers.

This, after the Education Ministry confirmed today that both papers had been leaked on Sept 21. The total number of papers compromised in the primary school public exam is now four.

Two weeks ago, leaks in both the Science and English papers were discovered, prompting authorities to launch an investigation that has so far seen 30 people, including teachers and a headmaster, record statements.

Three people are still remanded to assist in investigations. Students are expected to re-sit the Science and English papers on Sept 30.

The New Straits Times quotes Education Ministry director-general Dr Khair Mohamad Yusof as saying that students would have to retake both papers on Oct 9.

The date, he said, had been chosen after taking into account logistical issues and public holidays including Hari Raya Aidiladha.

He also apologised to parents, students and teachers, promising that it would not repeat.
