The Hindu rights group Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) has called on Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to resign form his secondary post as Education Minister following the leaked UPSR examination papers.
The Rakyat Post reports that Hindraf chairman P Waytha Moorthy said in a statement, “The Education Minister is accountable to the people and has to take personal responsibility for the mess in the UPSR exam leak saga.
“In many democratic countries, Minister would show honour by resigning.”
Waytha Moorthy added that Hindraf believes senior Education Ministry officials entrusted with maintaining the secrecy and security of the examination papers should be investigated and arrested, instead of the teachers who have been apprehended.
“At the most we believe they (the teachers) may have come to be in possession of the papers innocently through mass circulation in the social media,” he said.
“Hindraf is appalled with the manner in which lower ranking officers who were taken into custody and portrayed in the media as if they were hardcore criminals to divert attention from those responsible at the top level from taking responsibility.”
Hindraf’s statement on the matter is likely linked to the most recent revelation that the Tamil UPSR examination papers were also linked, a issue close to the ethnic Indian demographic for which the organisation acts as a representative.
