‘Celaka UMNO’ Penang assemblyman to be charged for sedition tomorrow

RSN Rayer, the Penang state assemblyman representing Seri Delima who sparked off angry protests from UMNO Youth members and Malay rights groups over his ‘celaka UMNO’ (“damn UMNO”) remark in May, will be formally charged for sedition tomorrow.

The DAP lawmaker told The Malay Mail Online‘s Opalyn Mok that he was instructed by the police to appear at the George Town Sessions Court tomorrow morning.

“They called me at about 1pm telling me to be present at the sessions court tomorrow morning to face a sedition charge,” he said.

Rayer was arrested on June 18 for sedition, after he made the ‘UMNO celaka’ remark on May 21 at a session of the Penang state legislative assembly.

His remarks spurred members of UMNO Youth and BN-aligned NGOs, including the Penang chapter of Malay rights group Perkasa, to protest outside the state assembly building. Several protesters stormed the assembly hall looking for Rayer, and were later arrested for trespassing.
